The Road to Becoming an Artist 1
Vol.001
Welcome to the room with the rather pretentious title, "The Road to Becoming an Artist."
Such a dream paradise doesn't exist in this world. But youth...
"I wanted paradise to exist. And I moved forward with single-minded faith." That was the kind of youth I had.
Far beyond the beaches bustling with young people. A man enjoying sketching in a sparsely populated pine forest.
If you see someone like that, it's "the painter Kozaburo." (I'll sell it to anyone interested.)

No. 285 "Katsuura Beach" '26.1. 1 up
Framed price: ¥50,000
(38.0 x 30.0 cm) Crayon
HappyNewNewandHappyNewMoveandWe hope you will continue to support us this year.
This year, I intend to continue challenging myself in various ways so that I can continue to receive your continued patronage of "The Path to Becoming an Artist."
Last year, a friend of mine asked me if I wanted to use a shareholder discount coupon, and I immediately agreed, saying, "Yes, yes!" That's where I decided to go: Katsuura.
It's a resort facility under the Tokyu Resort Hotel, and it's a little different from the places where ordinary people like me stay. Apparently, you can stay here for about the same price as a guesthouse.
Katsuura... I thought I'd heard so much about it, but I realized it was actually my first time visiting. This is the so-called outer Boso region.
I'd often come to the area around Awa-Kominato, a little further down the road, but those were the so-called Uchibo Line.
Emi and Futomi certainly had the scenery of the outer Boso Peninsula, but I was so used to the calm scenery of the inner Boso Peninsula that I could almost feel the rough waves of the Pacific Ocean around Futomi.
The coastline where the legend of Osen Koroshi remains is a rugged, steep coastline. I truly felt like I was about to set out into the Pacific Ocean.
The next update will be on February 1st.
No. 284 "Boso Bed Town" '25. 12.1 up
Framed price: ¥50,000
(48.0 x 36.0 cm) Crayon
I never realized how long it had been since I last visited the Boso Peninsula, but now Boso in Chiba Prefecture is no longer just a nearby resort area.
Trains, especially, are now operating at incredible speeds around the Tokyo metropolitan area. The medium-distance train network is at the heart of the high-speed transportation network that encompasses the greater Tokyo area.
My image of Chiba was a peaceful, relaxing place to visit on the weekends to unwind after a week's work.
In fact, when I was younger, my company's sanatorium was located in Uchibo, Chiba, and I often came here on weekends to recuperate.
Until recently, relying on those pleasant memories, I had the impression that it was a place for relaxation and health.
However, nowadays, medium-distance trains frequently run from here, starting from the capital Tokyo and extending to the Miura Peninsula on the other side.
The medium-distance trains around Kawaguchi, where I live, are 15-car trains, and of course, they include green cars and box cars.
...That's a really long train. I saw a JR employee on the platform and asked, "How many cars does this train have?"
"Yes, three cars were added along the way." That's an incredible amount of transportation capacity. I imagine commuting to the Tokyo metropolitan area has become much easier.
And on your days off, you can enjoy fishing and swimming in the nearby ocean...that's so nice, I'm jealous.
The next update will be January 1st.
No. 283 "Flowers at the End of Summer" Published November 1, 2025
Framed price: \50,000
(36.0 x 48.0 cm) Crayon
Just recently, we were all talking about the scorching heat and midsummer temperatures, and urging people to stay indoors, but now we're hearing news of snow.
It's a little sad to think we're preparing for winter without ever seeing that beautiful, high-altitude sky.
I've taken a few trips to Kanda with the goal of sketching, but it's scorching hot everywhere. In the end, all I could do was stay indoors, sit under the air conditioner, and peer out the window.
When I walked during the scorching summer, I relied on the walking trail at a nearby large shopping mall. Every day, I passed a flower shop on the trail, hoping for the appearance of beautiful flowers, but I never got to see any.
Like the vegetables, the flowers were all neatly cut to sizes that made them easy to pack, lacking any individuality.
I had no choice but to buy flowers with names in katakana: alstroemeria, gerbera, globe amaranth... Even globe amaranths have been bred and bear no resemblance to cosmos.
Soon, florist shelves will be taken over by bred, long-lasting, and easy-to-care-for imported species.
Oh, but it seems that flowers native to Japan, such as chrysanthemums and lilies, which are indispensable for Buddhist altars, are still playing an important role.
By the way, the vase in this picture is my own creation, introduced in No. 245. Please keep it in mind from now on.
The next update will be December 1st.
[21.5 years] Updated October 1st
I have worked for a chemical manufacturer for 43 years. At the age of 62, I retired due to company policy. I was offered a contract position to help younger generations, but I had always wanted to pursue my passion of painting, so I decided to pursue that path without hesitation.
At the end of September, I will have been working here for 21 years and 6 months, half of my time there. I wonder if I'm enjoying my time as planned? Looking back may help me see the path ahead more clearly.

No. 282 "Afternoon Break" Published September 1, 2025
Framed Price: \50,000
(32.5 x 38.0 cm) Transparent Crayon Crayon
This summer has been incredibly hot, but watermelon has finally become affordable for the average person like me.
Even so, before we knew it, summer staples like these have become cultivated under controlled cultivation, resulting in beautifully shaped fruits and exceptional prices.
Tomatoes, corn, and watermelon were typical summer outdoor crops, but now they're sweeter and have a better shape...and as a result, they've become luxury vegetables.
As expected, the sun began to weaken around 3 p.m., and most of the gardening came to a halt. I devoured a chilled watermelon, replenishing my salt intake.
After my break, I put away my pruning shears, scythe, and other tools and called it a day. All that's left is a bath and dinner, and I finally feel the signs of autumn in the air.
Among my favorite art materials, oil paintings require a generous amount of vehicle and thinner oil to achieve a transparent look, and I apply multiple layers.
Transparent watercolors have also been developed, but they require considerable skill and are a bit intimidating.
The stationery manufacturer Kokuyo has released the transparent crayons I used this time, so I gave them a try. It's a little confusing because the crayon itself looks different from the color applied to the paper, but I'm hoping that once I get used to it, I'll be able to create some interesting expressions.
The next update will be on October 1st.
No. 281 "Yubiso Onsen Town in Summer" Published August 1, 2025
Framed Price: \50,000
(32.5 x 38.0 cm) Crayon
Today, I'm sure most of you take the Shinkansen to travel from Tokyo to Niigata.
As for me, I'm never in a rush when traveling to Niigata by train. Today is my day to go, and today is my day to return, so I take my time throughout the day.
JR East no longer has the old-fashioned "Poppo-ya" (shopkeepers) around, and even a little snow means service suspension and bus replacements, resulting in train cancellations.
There are three railway tunnels under Mt. Tanigawa. One is the First Tunnel, which took nine years to complete between the Taisho and Showa eras and is now exclusively for the inbound lanes. The other is the Shin-Shimizu Tunnel, excavated exclusively for the outbound lanes as part of the Joetsu Line double-tracking project. Did you know that there are three Shinkansen lines?
At the end of the Taisho era, when tunneling technology was still in its infancy, the Shimizu Tunnel had to be as short as possible! To that end, the Toge-Dotaru tunnel was excavated, making it 9km long. However, each station was located significantly higher above ground, so in order to reach that height, a circular loop line with a 430m radius and a gentle slope was built between Yubiso and Doge, and between Dotaru and Nakazato, respectively, with a 2,700m circular loop line.It was able to raise the altitude by over 40 meters.
After descending from this loop to flat ground, the train glides across the iron bridge in this picture and into Yubiso Station. Even this remote hot spring town looks like a flat cider when there's no snow. Nowadays, only five inbound trains pass through here daily. Even back then, as can be seen from the overhead wires on the iron bridge, the Minakami-Yuzawa section was electrified, rather than steam locomotives, to prevent drivers from suffocating.
Take one of the five trains a day during the harsh winter. The scenery around Tsuchitaru and Doai Stations is spectacular, like riding through the frost-covered trees of Zao. It's a magnificent winter landscape.
The next update will be on September 1st.
No. 280 "Tanigawadake and Yubiso River" '25. 7.1 up
Framed price 20,000 yen
(19.0 x 24.0 cm) Crayon
On National Route 291, heading towards Tanigawadake from Minakami by car, you pass Yubiso Station, cross the bridge and continue along the open road along the opposite bank, and suddenly you can hear a melody coming from the road.
The unevenness of the road is designed to play the melody of "Oze in Summer" when you drive at 40km.
After the Melody Road, with its open view, finally comes to an end, and from here there is a drop from the national highway to the Yubiso River. In other words, at the end of this open area is Yubiso Park, a place of relaxation known only to those in the know.
The fresh meltwater from Mt. Tanigawa hits the rocks of the Yubiso River and breaks down, scattering and releasing an abundance of negative ions, making this a resort where you can simply refresh your mind.
Today, too, a dog-loving family with their doggies wearing life jackets is relaxing here, and at the edge of the stream fishing enthusiasts are actively casting their reels.
It seems that once upon a time, this National Route 291 was a thriving mountain road over Mt. Tanigawa, an important route for people traveling between Kanto and Echigo. Even now, you can see that the road from the Tanigawadake Ropeway to Machigasawa and Ichinokurazawa was an important road that was carefully maintained and maintained with impressive stone walls.
The Yubiso River also flows into the Tone River, which originates from the Fujiwara Dam, and contributes greatly to the water supply of Tokyo residents.
I hope that I can bring you some negative ions through my paintings during this particularly hot summer.

No. 279 "Looking up at the snowfield" '25. 6.1 up
Framing price 50,000 yen
(49.0 x 38.0 cm) Crayon
"It appears that the rainy season has started in the Kanto-Koshinetsu region"... The Japan Meteorological Agency makes a rough declaration every year, so people living in Tokyo tend to believe it.
That's right, the weather patterns of the Japanese archipelago are not as simple as coloring them with crayons.
I'm over 80 years old now, so it's no longer possible to ski on the snowfields that remain on Mt. Tanigawa at this time of year.
The amount of snowfall has decreased year by year, but until about 10 years ago, there was enough snow left on the snowfields of Mt. Tanigawa to ski until around mid-July.
Even when it was raining in Tokyo, soldiers would gather here on weekends and work together to set up poles in the snowfields and ski. Yes, the rainy season has not yet begun here.
It takes about 5 hours from my house to get to the snowfields of Mt. Tanigawa on a general road. I avoided the crowded national highway and often used the local roads that go down from the mountains of Gunma to the town of Minakami as my commute route.
As I descend from the mountain path, I suddenly see Mt. Tanigawa with its snowfields in front of me, and I say, "Hey, I'm here again today!"
This year, the snow in the snowfields of Mt. Tanigawa is so plentiful that it looks like you can ski until the end of July.

No. 278 "Atami Fishing Port" '25. 5.1 up
Framed price 50,000 yen
(49.0 x 38.0 cm) Crayon
Before we knew it, the cherry blossom season had completely passed and the town has been experiencing days before summer.
Even if I want to go out somewhere, I can't bring myself to go by car like I used to, so I mainly travel by train at the moment.
Traveling by car increases your mobility in the area and is certainly convenient, but the effort it takes to get there is also something to be done.
Recently, I often travel by train and rent a car when I get there, but when I want to combine good food and good alcohol, the train is the way to go.
I don't think about small financial gains or losses anymore. I take a green car to Atami, a taxi from the station, enjoy the place directly, and then do the opposite on the way back.
In my case, I usually do my favorite style of sketching, but this time I had a drink with the fisherman's meal of seared horse mackerel and grilled turban shells.
But I still made a rough sketch of the port scenery through the glass door at the back. I added more details when I got home while I still remembered them. If I feel like it, I can add more and enjoy it forever.
The journey I have spent in this way will become my nourishment and energy for the next part of my life.

No. 277 "Mt. Nikko Shirane in winter" '25. 4.1 up
Framed price 50,000 yen
(49.0 x 38.0 cm) Crayon
This winter was the hardest one of my life... I always spent the winter skiing without paying any attention to anything else.
I was told that I had esophageal cancer, as I had expected, and that I should concentrate on the radical treatment...
After undergoing surgery and the cycle of chemotherapy and radiation therapy for radical treatment since the end of last year, I returned to my normal life at the beginning of March, when all the major competitions had ended.
Fortunately, I was able to avoid any major changes in my physical condition, such as refusing to eat, but a physical examination showed that my muscle mass had decreased by 10%, which was a hopeless situation that is essential for high-speed control in alpine skiing.
The All Japan Masters tournament must have just ended. One after another, athletes who had finished the tournament came into the bath at the hot spring resort where I was recuperating.
As I was talking to an alpine skier I knew, it seemed that the person next to me was a Nordic skier, who joined in the conversation and we got excited. That was all.
I concluded that there was no other rehabilitation method that could safely recover the body while skiing other than Nordic skiing. Moreover, there is a lot of snow left on the mountains this year.
I spent my time here at an altitude of 2,000m, hoping for a synergistic effect of improving my cardiopulmonary function while also improving my muscular endurance.

( 162 x 130 cm) Oil painting
For the last 82 years, I have walked almost every day looking only forward. But now, God has given me the opportunity to look back.
I never felt this in my daily life during the winter, but now I think to myself, "Oh, so that's what it was..."
This was made in 1970, which means 55 years ago, when I was still a 27-year-old novice.
Despite having attended an art institute for a total of six years, I still had no clue as to the path I should take.
I was determined to carve out my own path in painting, even if I no longer attended the institute. However, my landlord wanted to sell my studio in Komagome Hayashi-cho, Bunkyo Ward, because it was old and dilapidated, and I was at a loss as to what to do.
In the meantime, I was told that I would have to move out of my apartment near Kohokubashi in Adachi Ward due to the construction of the Shuto Expressway's Kawaguchi Line, but that I could live there for at least six to seven years until the construction began.
Although it was only a 12-tatami room, I was very happy to have a large enough studio again and to have no rent, excluding utility bills.
It's good to have a relaxing space like this every now and then to take a break.

This year too, I intend to take on new challenges in various areas so that you will continue to support "The Road to Becoming an Artist."
About 50 years ago, the Osaka Expo was held. The "Tower of the Sun" by the late Taro Okamoto was built as a monument in the center of the main venue.
Art is an explosion!! h As he once said, everything he did and expressed was overflowing with originality.
It was completed at a cost of 630 million yen at the time. It is an enormous size, with a height of 70m, arms 25m long each, a golden face 10.6m in diameter, and eyes 2m in size.
But it seems that such a giant statue had no choice but to exist in an adult-like manner within the Expo site.
After the Expo ended, there was a growing momentum to raise the significance of the Tower of the Sun, and it was decided to move it to the top of a hill in Senri Town on the outskirts of Osaka.
Well, I decided to go on a journey to see the Tower of the Sun not up close, but from as far away as possible, to ascertain the significance of its existence.
The Osaka Monorail train runs around the hill near the Expo Memorial Park, and the Tower of the Sun looks very lively from the train window.
I think Taro Okamoto must have seen the movie "Godzilla." The image of a giant Godzilla reigning over the city among the city's buildings.
With the Expo over, Godzilla has finally found a place to rest...or rather, I felt the charm of the Tower of the Sun.

I was surprised that I was able to find a hotel in such a location... a natural hot spring near Nakanoshima in the middle of Osaka city!!
I was expecting only a tiny bathtub at this business hotel, but I was amazed to find a large public bath and natural hot spring.
A week after being discharged from the hospital after undergoing surgery to remove esophageal cancer, one of my pleasures was to go on a sketching trip and wander around nearby bars.
I decided not to go out drinking, but instead I found a blissful inn where I could relax in a large bath of natural hot spring water.
Moreover, I was planning to visit Osaka Castle today, so it was very close to there, so I was able to take my time and chew my food at the hotel breakfast (as my doctor had warned me).
However, since I wanted to sketch Osaka Castle, I had already looked around the area of ??the castle on the internet and decided to go to the Nishinomaru Garden.
I was surprised by Osaka Castle. The inbound tourism phenomenon is not surprising, but I was concerned about whether it would be possible to paint a picture in such a hustle and bustle.
However, the entrance fee to Nishinomaru Park was 200 yen, so I was able to escape from those rough people and enjoy sketching.

On this day when the lingering heat seemed to be lingering, I decided to make a bold move and came to Hikone City, Shiga Prefecture, on the shores of Lake Biwa.
When I got off the train, I was greeted by the smiling face of the popular character "Hikonyan".
To get to Hikone Station, you have to go to Maibara Station, where the Shinkansen Hikari stops, and then change to a local train to Hikone Station, so it's a bit inconvenient.
Due to the scorching heat that has continued for a while, I have refrained from going out, but when I took the Shinkansen for the first time in a while, it was so crowded that 80% of the passengers were foreign tourists.
To my surprise, most of the passengers were either not interested in the view outside or were so used to being on international flights that they didn't look outside. All the windows had their blinds down.
All I could do was surf the Internet in the aisle seat I finally managed to get, sipping on some Japanese sake and eating some dried fish.
It takes about 15 minutes on foot from the station to reach Hikone Castle. The entire castle is located on top of a small hill, so you can imagine the hardships that warriors faced when climbing up to the castle in the past. And as you would expect, restoration work is also being carried out in various places at the same time, so it must be a lot of work.
The view from the tranquil garden (Genkyu-en) looking up at the castle was also beautiful. I also painted from here.

It was the beginning of September, when the extremely hot days were still continuing, but I came to Atami for the first time in a long time.
It had already been 16 years since I had been here before, and I had relied on my old memories, so I never thought that I would have to go down about 200 steps from the station to the beach.
If you look at my diary at that time, it was written that it took 5 hours to get to Atami using the Metropolitan Expressway and Tomei with a bicycle in the car, and I stayed in the car in the parking lot by the sea.
Diary of October 8~9
As expected, it is unthinkable to be over 80 years old and go to the drawing with a bicycle. If you go as far as Atami, it is more than 100 km from my house, and if you buy a round-trip ticket, you can buy a ticket with 3 discounts, so I went by train.
Moreover, using the discount difference, it was not a comfortable two-day trip with a green car and a little margin, but a two-hour sketch trip.
Now, of course, the landscape has changed completely since the painting I painted in Atami 16 years earlier, which is unavoidable.
(No.85)"Atami Fishing Port"
I also remembered the place where I used to eat delicious food, and I found the fisherman's restaurant without difficulty. I'm sure it used to be a horse mackerel tataki bowl, but at that time it was a car, so it was a pity, and today I'm going home by train, so of course horse mackerel tataki, turban grilled in a pot, squid sashimi, etc., with alcohol.
How long will it be possible to have such a fun daimyo sketching trip?

As you know, Van Gogh is famous for his sunflower paintings, and Van Gogh's sunflower paintings are so famous, and I dare to challenge and try to draw such sunflower paintings, so I'm not a big deal. (laughs)
It's been very hot this summer. The Japan Meteorological Agency even issued a curfew, so I accepted it casually as a Thailand word.
Now, even if you are cooling off with the air conditioner working in the house, you will get frustrated. However, even though it didn't rain, I couldn't just read a book, so I went to a large commercial facility.
Unlike the so-called flower shops in Mr./Ms. city, there are flowers that are as extraordinary as possible. Yes, of course, everyday flowers are Buddha flowers at this time of year, but here a flower lover runs a flower shop.
When I came here to buy flowers before, I was told that I couldn't sell them because I didn't have them anymore, but I bought them because I said that I could last them for three days.
And during this period, there was also one. It would also be a variety of sunflowers, and Van Gogh's sunflowers are nowhere to be found in the store. Thailand for this, I bought each of them immediately.
I have often bought flowers and painted them in vases. Do you sometimes learn how to do flower arrangement from your friends? You may be asked.
Even so, I think that when I casually put flowers in a vase and make a picture, what kind of arrangement would make the space of the screen fun to express?
I always think about how fun it would be if I could come up with an absolutely stable composition, give it a movement, express the subtleties of balance, and create a mass game that arises from the spatial ratio caused by the difference in the size and color of the flower.
Today's sunflowers are all weird. "I'm not kidding, don't put anything in one vase!" It's up to each of them.
Finally, I came to my head and said, "It's Temee and the others who do whatever they want!" I tried to throw it into different containers.
It's just here, but the star of this episode is not the conceited sunflowers, but my own "vase with handles", how about it? (laughs)
What!? Are you more conceited than the sunflowers? Excuse me again.

Even after I became a member of society, I enjoyed skiing in my spare time. I started to visit Katashina Village in Gunma Prefecture, which is relatively geographically close to Tokyo.
Once you have a family and your children are able to ski, there are many ski resorts that you can enjoy safely, but Marunuma Kogen Ski Resort has become a ski resort that you can especially like.
When I turned 55, my kids were older and stopped skiing with me. Maybe it's time for me to quit skiing? When I thought about it, I joined a ski club of people of the same age who enjoyed skiing in the snow valley of Mt. Tanigawa in early summer and the snow valley of Norikura in summer, and I decided to continue skiing and enjoy it even more.
And perhaps coincidentally, the winter training base of the ski club I belonged to was Marunuma Kogen Ski Resort, and the training camp and dormitory was in Katashina Village. Therefore, the exchange with Katashina Village has been going on for more than half a century.
In addition to skiing, he also deepened his friendship with many villagers in Katashina Village, and became deeply involved with him as a base for making firewood for the stove he uses every winter, as well as his admiration for the mountain forest in summer.
In particular, I have arranged for firewood for the stove, and I process it there and carry it home, and I am still indebted to my predecessor, Kinjiro Sudo, Mr./Ms. and his heir, Kenichi Mr./Ms..
This house is the home of Mr./Ms. Kyoko, who is researching dyeing crafts, and has a thatched roof, which is rare today. From time to time, we take a break here to make small talk and have a cup of tea.
When the firewood is finished, in front of this hut chopped firewood is assembled into a yagura and dried until autumn. Nowadays, it has become a tradition in Katashina Village.
Thanks to I enjoy pottery at home in Kawaguchi City. And in the cold winter, atelier is soothed by the warm wood-burning stove and spends a rich feeling.

Here in Katashina Village in Gunma Prefecture, the summer season has arrived. During the ski season, I often come to the ski resorts near here where my home slopes are located.
Also, when the season is over, they often come all year round to make firewood for the stove for the next winter, and to cut the undergrowth of the mountain forest that was planted until a few years ago.
As for the ski resorts, due to the convenient transportation from the Kanto suburbs, the roadside station "Ozekatashina" has become a base for many skiers.
When the ski season is over and the May holidays are over, the station on this road will finally regain its usual calmness.
On the other hand, as you can see from the car with an out-of-prefecture license plate, the crowd in the early morning is probably Mr./Ms. customers heading to the Oze Marshland in early summer.
The attraction is the Mr./Ms. who want to see the view of the pretty Mizubasho blooming in the wetlands of Oze, Mt. Hiuchigatake with residual snow, and Ozenuma reflecting Mt. Shibutsu.
If you leave the roadside station, you will find the Oze Bridge, and you will not be able to go to Oze unless you cross this bridge. And the appearance of the bridge makes you feel like you are inviting Oze to welcome you.

It's not limited to these days, but the vegetables in the vegetable section and the fish in the fish section have lost their sense of seasonality.
As far as vegetables are concerned, it is preferable to put them on the table all year round if they are nutritionally possible, but a system has been established that can provide a stable supply through greenhouse cultivation.
What about flowers? In that case, was this also concocted with a confectionery manufacturer? Depending on the calendar, you may be at the forefront of the sales season.
However, whether it is vegetables or flowers, there are still many things that always come into their own as open fields at the turning point of the season.
It is not uncommon for many of them to attract customers and pay attention through unique cultivation as they want the name of a famous garden.
However, among them, peonies, buttons, etc. are particularly rare and not so easy to find. However, if you are looking forward to growing flowers, there is usually one plant in the corner of the garden.
I feel that it can be listed at the top of the list of flowers that are not available in flower shops at all. I found such a flower, so I didn't hesitate
When I said, "Give me that flower!", I said, "Customer, I can't sell this flower because it only lasts about two days..."
I said, "No, if there is a flaw, it is enough to draw a picture..."

On Saturday and Sunday in the second week of April, the final round of the season was held at Mitsumata Ski Resort in fine weather.
I left early the day before and headed north on the old Mikuni Highway, the so-called National Route 17, to the Mikuni Tunnel to cross Mt. Tanigawa. The Mikuni Tunnel is located at the western end of the Tanigawa mountain range, and the tunnel that is famous in literature has become completely new and comfortable.
From Gunma Prefecture to Niigata Prefecture, many vehicles are currently passing through the Kanetsu 11 km tunnel at once. If this high-speed tunnel becomes impassable due to an accident or other event, this No. 17 must be used as an important logistics artery, and it is always maintained with the mission of a first-class national highway.
The first thing you come across after the tunnel is Naeba Ski Resort, which is too famous, but the Tanigawa River in this area collects the melting snow and becomes the Asagai River, which flows into the Nii Dam, where it joins the Kiyotsu River that originates from the western end of Mt. Tanigawa.
The heavy snowfall area in this area has many ski resorts in the lower reaches of the river. One of them is the Mitsumata Ski Resort, a gondola that crosses the river and climbs to the ski resort, and many skiers are fascinated by the scenery of the Kiyotsu River, which is a clear stream as the name suggests. I looked upstream from the riverbank and drew a picture of Mt. Tanigawa, which still towers with a lot of residual snow.
In any case, this river weaves through the ski resort of Joetsu and passes through a basin of about 30 km before joining the Chikuma River, which has just changed its name. Furthermore, the river merges with the Uono River, which is mainly located in the plains of the Joetsu region, and becomes the Shinano River, a large river, flowing into the Sea of Japan.
At this time of year, the sunlight is reminiscent of early summer, but the wind that still blows mixes with the sound of the clear stream, giving you a taste of early spring.

This work was held in 2023, when the coronavirus pandemic took over, and the first overseas ski expedition in three years was the World Masters Championships held in Austria.
In the meantime, the political situation in the world had deteriorated considerably. The situation surrounding Russia's military advance into Ukraine has also affected flight routes.
The shortest flight route from Japan to Europe was over Russia, but this was also forced to be changed and it became a long-distance trip via Turkey.
Here at the Gostling ski resort in Austria, the inn I stayed at was right in front of the ski resort. When I wake up in the morning, I can see the upburn of the tournament directly in front of me from the balcony of my room, and I feel excited.
First of all, it was good to be blessed with good weather and to be able to enjoy an overseas expedition for the first time in a long time.
After the tournament, I had a little time to spare and went around the city of Vienna and visited wineries in the suburbs, so it was my first time in Austria in a long time.

Before the Corona disaster... In 2019, on the day of my mother's death and funeral, I was participating in the World Masters ski tournament in Megeve, France,
This kind of thing... Yes, there is. Every time I visited my mother, I talked to her about it, because she had already competed in the World Masters for five years, so she might not be able to say goodbye to me if something happened to me when I was in Europe. On March 3, he finished third at the All Japan Masters. On 3/4, my mother passed away. On March 6th, depart from Haneda for France.
My brothers said, "You did a lot of work to visit your mother when she was alive, so we'll make sure the ceremony goes off without a hitch, so let's go!"
Up until that point, I had been steadily getting closer to becoming a medalist, but in this competition, I was far from winning a medal. Although I was in agony, I used to sketch nearby on days when there was no game, but on this sunny day, I decided to take a bus to the office de Tourisme.
Intersections in the suburbs of Europe are often roundabouts. On a bus trip of nearly 70 km from Geneva, Switzerland, I was about to go around the roundabout at a place called Megeve, and Mont Blanc was in front of me!
The landmark is the roundabout near the tourist information center. In the village about 5km down from the bus station in Megeve, spring is already approaching, and we have come across the awe-inspiring Mont Blanc.

This year as well, we will take on various challenges in various ways so that you can patronize this "Path to Becoming a Painter" B
I came to Matsumoto for a meeting with my ski friends. If you walk from the east exit of the station, you will find the national treasure Matsumoto Castle about 15 minutes away.
Luckily, the city circulation bus departed, so I jumped on it. The passenger was a group of three men and women who were about the same age as me, and I was immediately talked to.
What is going on in the castle? Our bus is bound for Castle Matsumoto! Everyone seemed to be relieved by a big gesture to see if they understood, and they all greeted each other with a smile B
Speaking of Matsumoto, the castle is as familiar as the town next to Suwa, where I grew up, but I felt like I had become an international person just by talking with a foreigner, so I sketched this castle again.
Since the Corona disaster, even the countryside of Japan has been overflowing with foreign tourists. Let's actively engage in international exchange B

Saitama New City Center E E E Before I knew it, a station with such a name was built, and the scenery from the train window of the Keihin Tohoku Line changed completely.
In the first place, at the turn of the 21st century, that is, in the year 2000, the radio waves of Tokyo Tower began to reach some areas due to the influence of the surrounding high-rise buildings, and the momentum to build a new high-rise radio tower increased due to the prospect of more efficient terrestrial radio waves for VHF radio waves.
At that time, I think it was around the time when the vast land utilization of the Omiya Railway Station in Saitama Prefecture was emerging. However, it was decided that the radio tower would be located in Tokyo, where the current Sky Tree is located, and construction began in 2008.
For someone who has lived for 80 years, such transitions are like a panoramic view.
However, Saitama Prefecture, where I live, is still surrounded by many natural countryside, and from the perspective of the people who live there, it seems that there is a world far away.
The city center has become extremely limited in terms of human development, but it seems that there are still many elements that can replace the ideal city center of this "Saitama New City" Mr./Ms. the ideal city center.

If you change to the Kure Line from Hiroshima and pass about 5 Saka stations, the urban scenery will change completely. The train moves through the calm Seto Inland Sea and islands as if it has suddenly slowed down from the train window.
As I walked through the private houses and leisurely resort facilities that I could see from the train window, I was a little anxious to see if there was really a town that built a huge warship ahead.
Eventually, a cape came into view in the direction of travel, and when the train passed Yoshiura Station and went around the small cape, there was a shipbuilding city that felt like a strange city below.
What I found strange was that in the depths of the bay, where large waves crashed into a small bay, houses were lined up at the foot of the mountain as if water was submerged in every corner of the mountain.
The population was 250,000 during the war, and although it has decreased to 200,000 today, it is amazing that many shipbuilders were able to live here with their technological skills.
From the surrounding mountain peaks, the signs of autumn gradually appeared.
