Note

This slide rule was manufactured by Hemmi through a special order from the "Hemmi Slide Rule Re-creation Project."

Hemmi currently (2005) can manufacture slide rules by special orders. The base design is an 8 inch plastic rule with silk screen printing. The model for this project had to be a 5 inch rule because ten inch scales were impossible to silk-screen on an 8 inch rule. No.135 (Darmstadt) was chosen to be the model for the project.

The rule has a few special markings on the back. The "Keisanjaku" signifies the Japanese slide rule mailing list. It also has an ISRG (The International Slide Rule Group) logo.

The "date code" for this rule is a special. Since Hemmi run out of the characters in 1975 for the year code , the project created a new system. New code format is 21YM, with Y, starting with A, signifies the year starting 2001. M denotes the month starting with A being January. Therefore, 21ED means it was manufactured April 2005, which was the originally planned date for completion of the project.

Although every effort was made to recreate the features of the original rule, some of the features had to be modified due to the technical reasons:

  • The new cursor has one line whereas the original curser had three lines.
  • The C gauging mark (at 1.128) was added on C scale to partially compensate for the loss of two cursor lines.
  • A new Hemmi logo is used instead of the original "Sun & Cloud" design.
