Trip to Noto
Early August, 2001, we traveled to Noto, which is an area facing Japan sea.

Since we started early, one week before the mass traffic for summer vacation happened, the road was not congested and we enjoyed the trip thoroughly. Our only problem was that it was so hot that we were drenched in sweat in less than two minutes out side of car. The temperature had been higher than that of Tokyo.

Tojinbo

Tojinbo is the rock formations alongside clifs. It can be best viewed from a boat.

Wajima

This drum dance is called "Gozinjou-Daiko". It is said that about 400 years ago, when the powerful army led by Kensin Uesugi came, the local people (farmers) beat the drums and danced in front of the enemy camp with masks which were made overnight and the hair made with seaweeds. The enemy soldiers retreated thinking that they were surrouded by some evil creatures.

The dance is being performed by the local volunteers today. Even today, it is very scary when you meet with this masked dancers eye-to-eye.

Rokugou Cape

At the tip of this cape there is a lighthouse. Along the road, we saw intereting things including big lotus flowers, rice patties named "Thousand rice patties". There was 10 mimutes of steep climb to get to the lighthouse. Under the glaring sun, this was tiring.
