アジア猛禽類ネットワーク（Asian Raptor Research and Conservation Network：ＡRＲＣＮ）は、2003年10月10-13日に、台湾の墾丁国立公園で第3回 アジア猛禽類シンポジウムを開催しました。

シンポジウムには、アジア、欧米各国から18カ国230名が参加しました。

口頭発表24題、ポスター発表23題、ワークショップ３題が行われました。

 併せて、シンポジウム期間中にアジアにおける猛禽類の調査・保護推進体制検討会議を行いました。

世界の第一線で活躍する3名の猛禽類研究者を迎え、3題のワークショップが開催されました。

Habitat Research; Dr. Mark R. Fuller（マーク・フェラー博士）
ボイス州立大学の猛禽類研究センター（アメリカ）で活躍されているマーク・フェラー博士により、ハビタット（生息環境）に関する最新の調査手法と解析手法についての講義が行われました。

Population Research; Dr. Ian Newton（イアン・ニュートン博士）
イギリス在住の世界のイアン・ニュートン博士により、ポピュレーションに関する長期間に及ぶ詳細な調査成果、調査手法、解析手法についての講義が行われました。

Raptor Trapping; Mr. William S. Clark
（ウィリアム・クラーク氏）
世界各地で多数の猛禽類を捕獲した経験を持つウィリアム・クラーク氏により、捕獲技術の講義、野外実習が行われました。

フィールドトリップ

秋空のもと、台湾の最南端に位置する墾丁国立公園で、日本を経て、台湾からフィリピンへ渡る猛禽類の群れを観察しました。サシバやアカハラダカの大群のほか、カンムリオオタカ・カンムリワシなどのアジアに特徴的な猛禽類の渡りが堪能できました。

アジアにおける猛禽類の調査・保護推進体制検討会議

アジア猛禽類ネットワークが、アジア各地で協力して実施している下記の共同プロジェクトについて、アジア各国の代表者や会員など23名が参加し、検討会議を実施しました。

2.Ecology of the Indian Black Eagle（カザノワシの生態）

3.Ecology of the Bat Hawk（コウモリダカの生態）

これまでの調査成果の報告のほか、今年度以降の実施予定について、活発な議論が交わされました。
