大方の専門家の予測を裏切ったイギリス国民投票によるEU離脱決定の激震がヨーロッパの北西の島から発して世界を揺るがせ、間近にあるギリシャやイタリアなどの弱い地層に打撃を加えつつ、巨大大陸の逆の端にある日本の金融市場の弱点を突き、「リーマンショック」の悪霊を呼び起こすのではないかとささやかれるようになってしまった。

「グローバル化」と言う名の黒雲が世界中に格差をばら撒き、生活不安に身構える諸国民と、戦火から逃れようとする数千万人の難民予備軍が、お互いに傷口に塩を塗りこむように痛めつけあう中で、ついに英語圏のナンバー２国家が新しい道を探り始めたようだ。

その道がどこにたどり着くのかは誰にもわからないが、当事国の指揮官であるキャメロン首相は、ただちに公式見解を発表して、事態の収拾への舵取りを行った。

２０分弱のこのスピーチは、オバマ米国大統領の広島演説とともに、歴史の転回点として記録されると予感された。
