　　Abstract

　In a CALL environment for Japanese EFL university students, we have long used an optimized software with a dynamic display mode of chunked text in order to enhance their reading efficiency. In this practice, students read a new passage of approximately 200 to 300 words chunk by chunk on the software, followed by online comprehension questions in each lesson. To confirm the learning effects, we gave pre- and posttests to measure students’ WPM and comprehension rate with affective questionnaires on one semester basis partly without this software.
　In these tests, however, we had difficulty measuring them precisely, using multiple tools, tallying the data and giving a quick feedback.
　Eventually, last year our software was renovated to realize precise measurement of WPM and comprehension rate, and instant feedback, making even a questionnaire available, as well as security enhancement by data encryption. More importantly, this new software, named Mewm（http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~mint_hs/soft/mewm/mewm.html）, can successfully integrate the above effect measurements and classroom practice, so that students can see their reading speed and comprehension rates not only in the pre- and posttests but in each lesson.
　It is expected that this integrative software can, as a pacemaker, motivate our students and facilitate their reading efficiency by self-adjusting.
　In this presentation, we are going to show how Mewm can be effective and expedient to enhance reading efficiency in the actual practice in a class.

　　要旨

　Seleaf （http://www.mintap.com/） is an open search site for spoken Englishalong with video pictures from movies. This website stores 20 hours of 13 American premier movies, which are broken down into 30,000 scenes, 20,000 phrases, and 130,000 words.
　Seleaf is different from other search sites such as Google and YouTube in that it enables the user to search movie scenes by script. This means that massive text data are stored such that it is synchronized with speech data and visual pictures. The scripts are not identical to the original subtitles; they were transcribed based on the original dialogue for audio-lingual purposes. The English transcription and the Japanese subtitles can be switched on and off.
　Each word is lemmatized so that the different inflected forms of the word are grouped together so they can be analyzed as a single item (e.g. the search word go leads to go, went, gone, goes and going).
　Thus, Seleaf is highly beneficial for use in educational situations. The authors will discuss how to enrich language teaching using this newly developed search site in a variety of ways. First, language teachers can instantly show and repeat expressions in a visual context in class. Second, teachers can offer examples of various phonetic realizations of spoken English. Third, the Shadowing Drill function helps learners to read aloud or shadowread any phrases repeatedly through rich visual context. Finally, the site can be used in tandem with an SNS site such as Facebook where teachers and learners share a better use of the tool for language learning and entertainment.
