■日本では「埴生の宿」（里見義（ただし）・作詞）として１８８９年の『中等唱歌集』に収録されて、今日まで親しまれてきた。我が家にまさるところなしというテーマは共通しているが、「埴生の宿」は正確な訳詞ではない。
■ 曲そのものは、１８２１年にロンドンで出版された
Melodies of Various
Nations に「シチリア曲（Sicilian air）」の “To the Home of My Childhood” (Thomas Bayly 作詞) として収録されたものである。
適当なシチリアの曲がなかったので、イギリスのヘンリー・ビショップ（Henry R. Bishop, 1786-1855）が新たに作曲して付け加えたという話が伝えられている。
■「埴生の宿」の元歌（歌詞）は、アメリカの劇作家ジョン･ハワード・ペイン（John
Howard Payne, 1791-1852）の脚本、イギリスのヘンリー・ビショップの作曲によるオペラ『クラリ、ミラノの乙女（Clari;
or, The Maid of Milan）』（１８２３年ロンドン初演）で、主人公のクラリが歌う望郷の歌として挿入された
“Home! Sweet Home!” である。
脚本（１８２３年出版）では以下の２連の歌詞であった。
（１）
'Mid pleasures and palaces, though we may roam,
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like
home.
A charm from the sky seems to hallow us
there,
Which, seek through the world, is ne'er met
with elsewhere.
Home! sweet home!
There's no place like home!
（３） An exile from home,
splendour dazzles in vain!
Oh! give me my lovely thatch'd cottage
again!
The birds singing gaily that came at my
call,
Give
me them, with the peace of mind DEARER than all!
Home! sweet home!
There's no place like home!
■「こがねの城を経めぐるとも」は、２番として以下の歌詞を付け加えた版の訳詞である。この２番（作詞者不詳）は原作（および１９世紀中ごろまでの楽譜）にはなかったもので、１９世紀末ごろから普及し始めて、多くの歌集に取り入れられた。
（２） I gaze on the moon,
as I trace the drear wild,
And
feel that my parent now thinks of her child;
She
looks on that moon from our own cottage door,
Through
woodbines whose fragrance shall cheer me no more.
■ なお、折り返し部分は実際には；
“Home,
home, sweet, sweet home!
There’s
no place like home,
There’s
no place like home.”
と歌われる。
■もともと讃美歌ではないし、宗教的な内容も希薄であるので、“Home!
Sweet Home!” そのものを収録した讃美歌集はほとんどない。しかし、この曲に合わせて、イギリスのバプティストの牧師David Denham が１８２６年に書いた “’'Mid scenes of confusion and creature complaints” という歌詞の版は多くの讃美歌集に取り入れられた（ただし、現在ではあまり知られていない）。日本でも首藤新蔵編『讃美歌』（1903）「みだれやうらみの世にて」および１９０３年版『讃美歌』３５４番「わづらひおほき」となり、後者は１９３１年版『讃美歌』にも引き継がれた。
