COP７での「本日の化石賞」発表は、毎夕6時、テント内に設置されている国連の広報事務所とアル・サハプレスルームの間で行われる。

10月29日の単独の「化石賞」受賞国となったことで、COP6再開会合で受賞回数第2位だったオーストラリアは、そのまま記録を維持する兆しを早くも見せた。
受賞の理由は、シドニーで2日前に始まった自由党選挙運動で、ジョン・ハワード首相が京都議定書に関して熱弁を振るった声明だ。彼は次のように述べた。
「オーストラリア国民は温室効果ガス排出に関する地球的な合意を望んでいる。しかし、我々は、京都議定書批准によるコストの全容が明らかになるまで議定書を批准しない。（野党党首の）ビーズリー氏と違い、我々は、批准という1つの「行動」によってオーストラリアの産業や雇用にかかるコストの全容が分かるまで、オーストラリアの「行動」の自由を手放すサインはしない。この問題で物を考えている人間なら誰でも、温室効果ガス排出に関する効果的な国際的合意を達成するたった1つの方法は、アメリカ合衆国と、そして発展途上国を合意の中に取り込むことだと知っている。」

ロシアは30日の化石賞での唯一の受賞者だった。ボン合意の文書を再度紐解くよう、条約事務局に要求したことから、化石賞を勝ち取ったのである（詳細については、同ページのトップ記事を参照）。
10/31 Australia, Canada, Japan and Russia were the joint recipients of yesterday's fossil of the day award. They won the distinction for their proposal in the compliance working group which challenged the mandatory nature of the Bonn Agreement. The proposal would make a substantive change to the language their ministers adopted in Bonn. In stark contrast to the original text which quoted the ministers' agreement calling for the COP to adopt procedures and mechanisms relating to compliance, the new proposal by these countries would have the COP do nothing and instead, simply make the recommendation to the COP/MOP.
11/1 The Russian Federation was the outright winner of the Fossil of the Day awards yesterday for its undemocratic interventions in the Compliance group. It tried to gut all measures calling for public participation and completely shut the public out of enforcement mechanisms to the Kyoto Protocol. It attempted to change text to prevent the public from being informed of enforcement proceedings until a final decision had been taken.
Second place went to the US for its SBSTA intervention suggesting science not be used to evaluate its future sinks projects.
The EU took third spot for unexpectedly supporting inadequate reporting of Article 3.3 and 3.4 sinks activities, and specifically for not requiring that annual inventories include sufficient information on where sinks activities occur. This "geo-referencing" of sinks activities is critical for verifying emissions estimates, ensuring transparency and evaluating the biodiversity conservation criteria of the Bonn Agreement.
11/2The Umbrella Group was the winner of the Fossil of the Day award yesterday. The EU and Japan came in second and third respectively.
Kiko#2より 2日の化石賞では、アンブレラグループの国々（日加露）が第1位を受賞、京都メカニズムの参加要件のところで遵守との関連条項を削除しようとした姿勢が、ボン合意を無視する論外のものだったためだ。第2位はEU、遵守制度の中でロシアが情報公開や市民参加の仕組みを全てなくそうとした発言をしたのに何も対抗しなかったとしてNGOの大きな失望をかった。そして第3位が再び日本。第1位と同じ理由だが、特にその中でもアンブレラグループをリードし、率先してボン合意を踏みにじったとして贈られた。
カナダは5日、全部で三つの化石賞全てを勝ち取った。そのうちの一等は、日本との共同受賞だった。
日本とロシアは、6日の化石賞授賞式でも様々な理由で即座に受賞者となった。
第一に、昨日開かれた共同記者会見での彼らの態度が問題だった。彼らは、交渉に来ている本当の理由が、遵守テキストから透明性と市民参加を取り除くためだ、ということを否定した。
第二に、彼らは、京都メカニズムの利用のための二つの重要な鍵となる適格性要件、吸収源の国別目録の提出と遵守レジームの採用を取り除こうとした。
ロシアは繰り返し附属書Zの数値についての交渉を再開しようとし、その33メガトンという新たな数値が科学に基づく吸収源量であると議論をふっかけたことで、さらに特筆された。実際この数値は、確実な炭素目録に基いたものではなく、不確かな見積もりの数値だからである。
日本の方は、一連の交渉を最も妨害している国・ロシアと同盟を組んでいることで批難された。ロシアはボン合意の精神を壊しているので、ここマラケシュで合意に達することおよび、議定書の批准と来年の発効に向け最大限に努力するとの日本の公約には疑惑がある。
カナダは、約束期間リザーブ（CPR)を自発的なものにする提案をしたために別の化石賞を勝ち取った。
11/7 Saudi Arabia was voted winner of the award for ensuring science played no part in the climate negotiations. When Parties agreed at the SBSTA meeting on Tuesday that a workshop will be held to discuss implications of the IPCC Third Assessment Report for future negotiations, Saudi Arabia insisted on bracketing uncontroversial text regarding the report.
It insisted on removing any reference to the adoption of a decision at COP8 following the workshop.
The US earned second place for trying to delete references to climate change, the Kyoto Protocol and the Bonn Agreement from appearing in the Marrakesh Declaration as this would be brought forward to WSSD. Working behind the scenes, the US was trying to dilute the language to ensure it would not be isolated next September in Johannesburg.
8日の報告関連(5,7,8条)の交渉グループ会合で、日本は京都メカニズムの適格性復帰のためのレビューに関し新たな文言を提案した。交渉のこんな末期になって初めて、議論もされていない新たな提案を持ち出すことは重大な妨害行為である。しかもEUからのわずかな文言の変更提案すら拒絶した。これは明らかに昨日の川口環境大臣スピーチで強調した、マラケシュで合意するためにやってきた、全ての国に柔軟性を求める発言に反した、柔軟性の欠如した行為である。
In the Article 5.7.8 negotiation group yesterday, Japan introduced a new text proposal on review for reinstatement of mechanism's eligiblity. It is a serious act of obstruction to introduce new text that parties didn't discuss before in this final stage of negotiation and to refuse even minor changes of that text by the EU. This lack of flexibility is clearly against Minister Kawaguchi's speech yesterday, in which she emphasised strongly her determination to come to an agreement in Marrakech and called on all parties to be flexible.

The United States was declared winner of the final fossil award of COP7 for placing all text relating to the LDC Fund in square brackets. Japan won second place for its negative behaviour during the negotiations on Articles 5, 7 and 8.
